We want to give our partners and customers the best possible experience, and there are a few reasons we uphold cable company fiber delivery as the way to do that. While there are various methods to connect businesses to the internet using fiber, we’ve seen cable fiber as the best experience for the customer. Here are a few reasons why:
Pre-sale Site Surveys
When a customer would like to know if fiber is available at their address, a site survey is requested. The cable company sends an engineer, determines where the nearest fiber service is, and then comes up with what the construction cost will be to deliver fiber to the building. If the address comes back in need of construction to deliver the fiber, the customer’s monthly contract amount can be adjusted or the customer can write a check to cover the cost. The cable fiber customer knows exactly what the cost will be for the service before signing a contract. There is no uncertainty as to whether or not the service will be possible, or how much it will cost.
Most competitors to the cable companies have the customer sign a contract first, then wait 30 days or longer for a site survey. The fiber provider then informs the customer of the build cost and they have the option to move forward. This process causes unnecessary delays in service delivery, and uncertainty about whether the customer’s required bandwidth is even available.
Conduit and Riser Build Costs
The biggest advantage to buying cable company fiber is in the way the fiber is delivered to the customer. Cable companies run fiber from the pedestal on the street all the way to the building and then up to the customer’s suite.
Other fiber carriers run connectivity to the pedestal only, and the customer is required to lay conduit between the pedestal and their building. The customer then has to hire a cabling company to pull the fiber through the conduit to the building’s demarcation point and then up to their office suite. This can be an expensive endeavor, especially if construction involves digging up parking lots or railroad tracks or pulling the fiber up through the floors of a high rise.
A Less Painful Process
Overall, Innovative is able to get site survey results and contracts back to our partners faster with the cable companies. Our partners and their customers experience transparency about costs and the reality of installation. Customers are not left in the dark about whether or not they will have to pay for certain connectivity, or if connectivity is even possible. From a project management standpoint, cable fiber is a much faster and more efficient process.
